Now I am a sucker for anything M&M related.  So when I was playing around with my Chocolate chip Cookie Bar recipe trying to see what could possibly make it better, add M&M was an obvious choice! These thick, chewy, M&M Chocolate Chip Bars are easy to make, delicious, , and always a huge hit at any gathering!

This recipe makes a huge sheet pan of these fantastic bars. The resulting thick, dense, chewy bars are guaranteed to disappear in a flash wherever you take them.  As a bonus, the colorful M&Ms make it possible to customize this dessert to any holiday, from red, white, & blue for the Fourth of July…to red & green for Christmas…to red, pink & white for Valentine’s Day. 

         Ingredients

  • 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, melted & cooled until warm
  • 2 cups (lightly packed) light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs plus 2 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups M&Ms, DIVIDED             
Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F
  2. Generously butter an 18x13-inch sheet pan
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  4. In another large bowl, use an mixer to combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. 
  5. Add in the vanilla, eggs and the egg yolks, beat until well combined. 
  6. Slowly and gradually, with the mixer on low speed,  add the flour mixture and mix until just combined. 
  7. Stir in the chocolate chips and half of the M&Ms.
  8. Generously butter an 18x13-inch sheet pan
  9. Spread the batter into the prepared baking pan, pressing down and smoothing the top into an even layer. Sprinkle with the remaining M&Ms and lightly press them into the surface. 
  10. Bake for 18 to 23 minutes or until the edges are light golden brown and the center is set. Allow to cool in the baking pan before slicing and serving.
